Wonderings

Wonderings
I wonder if...
Beginnings
Welcome to my website, Wonderings. I’m Dr. William L. Brown -- for most of you, recently your psychiatrist. But some of you are family members or friends curious about what I have been up to. And some of you have been steered here by others. Welcome all! Anyone is welcome here. I have made it to retirement and find myself wanting to revisit and organize some the resources and pathways of recovery I have worked with in my years as a psychiatrist. The website is called “wonderings” as in “I wonder if…” or “I’m stuck. I wonder if that’s true? I wonder if there might be a different way forward?” To wonder is to allow for possibilities, to allow for doubts, to open ourselves to new ways of seeing things. Rumi the poet has said: "Out beyond ideas of right and wrong, there is a field. I will meet you there." This is a field of wondering about things. Supposing something might be the case and wondering where this might get us. There is freedom in these places. Freedom from the fear of getting it wrong. After all, we are just wondering.
A few words on the organization of the website. There is a section of “Written Wonderings” where I will share some thoughts, stories, and poems that are most easily shared in writing. Some of you have asked for some of the handouts I’ve provided you over the years; I will eventually get most of these loaded up in “Handouts.” Further down, you will find a welcoming video then two sections of videos. The first are “Wonderings” where I will share perspectives, pathways of healing, reflections, stories, and poems I have used in both my own healing and in working with many of you. Finally, there is a section of videos in “Awareness Training” that are my take on mindfulness work. Of all the pathways of healing, for me becoming more aware of my awareness has been most powerful. Currently, it seems right for me heading into my retirement to continue to focus time and thought and heart on these processes of healing and connection. I make no promises on how far I get with this or how long I keep this up. But, if you are curious, come back again sometime and see where I have gotten with this.
With affection,
Dr. Brown
